Having a great agriculture complex Azersun’s success is based on building and running effective value chains from farm to fork. Our total area under cultivation is 10,000 hectares; this figure includes reclaimed badlands. A major reclamation project on 3,400 hectares of saline land in the southerly district of Bilasuvar oversaw thorough recultivation as well as building of the drainage network and installation of modern spraying and drop irrigation schemes. This land is now used to grow soybeans, barley, wheat, green peas, maize, sunflower, tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers and other vegetables under the Global GAP certificate. We have also planted more than 400,000 pomegranate trees and established an organic farm for growing vegetables and gourds within the area. For this bio-horticulture farm we use only organic fertilizers from our nearby plant. Produce is then processed at a canning facility located next to the cultivated area. Another significant contribution of Azersun to viable value chains in agriculture is a hazelnut processing facility in the northern district of Zaqatala with the annual processing capacity of 5,000 tones.
